:: Tele-Prompter for OS X

Tele-prompting is a way to get your on-air talent to read like a pro. The idea is to get the script in front of the talent and camera so they can look into the camera and recite the script like they are not reading it. This takes some talent by the on-air person. And it also takes some good setup and right equipment by the video professional.

If you have been around video as long as I have. You may remember when it was very hard to get a teleprompter in the field. Also how costly tele-prompting software and the specialized hardware you once needed was. Well that was the past and if you are like me and use a Macintosh running OS X to edit your video. You may just like to use that same PowerBook or desktop Mac to have a cheap and easy solution to get professional tele-prompters for your on-air talent.

:: I Can’t Switch to Windows, There Is NO Software for Windows

What you say? No software for Windows? That is ridiculous! Have you lost your mind.

Well that is how I sometimes feel when my Windows only, using friends and clients tell me there is no software for Macs. They believe in this myth and were apparently brainwashed. Their statements are certainly not based on research or actual use. As the facts tell otherwise. Many of the “firsts” in desktop computing were on Macintosh, sometimes years before Windows. There are over 12,609 native OS X applications available for the Macintosh according to osx.hyperjeff.net. That is not counting OS 9 applications that still run in classic mode. Or the thousands of UNIX applications that run in X11 which is the X window version that is included on the OS X install disk. Applications made for earlier Macintosh OS 9 and lower can be still be run in on OS X with classic installed.

So now I ask you. IS there a large amount of software available to Mac OS X? Well Stephen they say, I was talking about the major applications I NEED everyday! Well, so am I. Let me go “out on a limb” here. I will state I could NOT switch back entirely to Windows easily. Why you may ask? Because as my outrageous title says “There is NO software for Windows”. At least what I use everyday. But I still use ALL the same major software applications that Windows users depend on. How is this so you may ask?

:: Delicious Library 1.5 is All Ready for Tiger

Delicious Library 1.5 is all ready for Tiger and well worth the cost ($40). It is a great and fun way to organize your books, CDs, video games, and DVDs.

It uses an iSight camera to instantly scan the barcode on your collection, fast and easy. There is also an optional bluetooth bar code scanner available from them so you can walk around your house or business! The iSight works great with it. The application is a beautiful thing to use and look at. To give you an idea how well done it is. M$ has been accused by the tech community of “stealing” its look and feel in the lousy demo screenshots of Longhorn they did at WinHEC conf last month.

Check out the website and try a demo for free. I bet some of you will buy it, I did. By the way, it is a Mac OS X only app and includes a “very cool” Dashboard widget. So if M$ does “steal” some of it for Late-Horn, it will be “Years Later”, and I bet “NOT as Good”. You can use it NOW!

:: Macs Cost More, Right? Well No Actually!

The very next time you are told “Macs cost more than PCs” please refer to these websites below. This argument has gone on forever. At one time this might have even been true. But that was long long long time ago. I get this all the time when people compare a cheap very low end entry machine to a high end iMac 20” or a PowerMac DP. Or when they compare a barely usable PC laptop to a nicely equipped iBook or PowerBook. When you throw in the Mac mini ($499) to the mix it really drowns out this nonsense.

Just like cars, or other analogy objects. Please tell them NOT to compare Apples to Oranges or Apples to Lemons in this case!

Lets see that both machines have similar optical drives (DVD, CD, burner, etc), similar HD (capacity and speed), ports (USB, Firewire, VGA, etc), similar monitors (size, type, quality), similar video cards (very important), Airport card, Bluetooth, warranty and support (this includes AppleCare, free classes at Apple Store, etc), RAM, and how about software!!!!! All Macs come with iLife and many other apps. Does the Windows PC? Isn’t software what we use when we sit down with a computer?
