Here are some window tricks that will help your productivity.

Add some frequently used items to Finder windows
Control-Click on any Finder window and choose Customize Toolbar. Add desired items and they will show up on all the Finder windows. Great time saver.

Customize Window

Minimize all of the windows of the current application all at one time
Hold down the Option key while clicking on the minimize button (orange middle one) on the left top corner of any window in the application.

Finder Window

Close all of the windows of the current application all at once
Hold down the Option key while clicking on the close button (red left one) on the left top corner of any window in the application.

Maximize a window to a size even larger than clicking on the zoom button (green one) on the left top corner of the window
Hold down the Option key while clicking on the zoom button (green right one) in the left top corner of the window.

Hide all of the windows in one application as you switch to another application
Hold down the Option key while clicking on any window in the next application or on the next application’s icon in the Dock.

Move a window without giving it focus
Hold down the Command key (Apple key), click the title bar of the window that is not in focus that you want to move and drag it to the desired location.

Open a parent directory for a document or a Finder window
Hold down the Command key (Apple key) while clicking on the title bar of the active window. A pop-up menu will appear that lists the folders that contain the document or window. Choose the one you want.

The ways to minimize a window
Click the small orange icon (middle one) in the top left corner of the window
On menu bar Select Window -> Minimize (most applications)
Command key (Apple key) – M – This is the keyboard shortcut for above
Double-Click on the title bar of the window

General Preferences – located in Finder under Finder -> Preferences
Allows you to adjust:
Appearance and look of buttons, menus and windows.
Highlight colors for selected text and lists.
The behavior of a scroll bar.
