OS X Tip #65
You can share a printer attached to your Mac with other Macs on a home network very easy.
Here’s how:
Open Printer Setup Utility, Applications -> Utilities. Set up printer by attaching to USB port and following printer manufacturer’s instructions for installing drivers.
Make sure your printer functions correctly on the Mac OS X machine the printer is attached to first.
Enable Printer Sharing on the Mac that has the printer attached (USB usually).
Open System Preferences (can click on Apple menu, then -> System Preferences)
Go to -> Sharing -> click on Printer Sharing

When you want to print from an application just choose the shared printer from the Print function located under the File menu. See below.

Important:
Make sure to turn “Printer Sharing” on only on the Mac that has the printers attached that you want to share. Make sure it is off on any other Macs on your local network. If you do not do this you will probably see several shared printers showing up when you want to print from the remote Macs. This will be confusing as only the correct one will work when chosen. See below.

Usually you only need to load the printer drivers on the host Mac. That is the Mac that is directly connected to the printer. The host Mac and printer of course needs to be on to share the printer.
