Do you want to play WMV file on your new iPod video? Well here is a way to convert WMV files to QuickTime and get it play on the iPod with video. This tip is for Mac OS X users.
Here’s how:
Download and install WMV Player Pro $49 (free trial). WMV Player Pro lets you convert WMV files to QuickTime.
After you install WMV Player, open up the WMV file in QuickTime Pro 7.03 ($29.95), and then use Quicktime Pro to convert the video into an iPod-compatible format. The iPod video plays back m4v (MPEG-4) video.
Just use QuickTime Pro File menu -> Export

Pick Movie to iPod (320×240) from the list. This will give your video a .m4v file extension. Just rename it to whatever you like and “Save the exported file as.” This will leave your original video untouched.

Now just add it to your iTunes Library and it should play just fine in iTunes and on your iPod with video.

I exported my video as you said, but for some reason I can only see the video! The background audio doesn’t work at all! And some of my mpg vids don’t work on quicktime pro! It’s all so confusing to me!
Ianya,
See iPod Tip #13: Convert MPEG for iPod Video for converting mpg files. This post is for converting WMV files. If your video is mpg you will need to convert it to a QT .mov file first using MPEG Streamclip (free) as mpg files have multiplexed audio and video.

Does this converting method works on a windows based computer?
I have windows XP, and I need to convert WMV files to M4V type files to be able to play them on my 5g iPod video. Is it possible?
Thanks
Sorry, this does not work for Windows XP. QuickTime Pro from Apple works fine on Windows XP or Mac OS X. But Flip4Mac WMV Pro is OS X only. Try http://www.avi-vcd.com/ Cucusoft iPod Video Converter this may work for you. I have not tried it personally as I prefer Mac OS X for all my video needs.

sometimes when u convert files to MPEG it turns into MPEG 1 Muxed. to see if its muxed open the file in Quicktime and click Window at the top and then click view movie info and there is a list of things and one of them should say format and if the format is muxed then u cannont convert it to m4v and still play sound. u can see the video just no sound.
Hey, I want to convert a M4V movie file to be compatible with Windows Media Player, is that possible?
