Right on top of Apple’s Boot Camp announcement, comes Parallels Workstation 2.1 Beta for Mac OS X, virtualization software for Intel Macs. This solution allows you to run Windows on top of OS X, a lot like Virtual PC, without the need to boot into Windows. Unlike Virtual PC the Parallels solution is said to run at “near” native speed.
Parallels Workstation 2.1 Beta can run Windows versions (3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, Me, 2000, NT, XP, 2003), any Linux distribution, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS/2, eComStation, or MS-DOS and is free while it is in beta. The software is expected to cost $49.99 on the official release.
