Apple opened their new store on Fifth Avenue in midtown New York City on Friday. Long lines of people waited in the rain to get into the new store which will be open 24 hours and 365 days a year according to Apple. Thanks Helen and Ayres for the great pictures in our picture gallery of the event. See the pictures of the Apple cube and sub-teranium store.
Apple has time lapse photographs from the first 24 hours and a photo gallery. Steve Jobs made an appearance along with thousands of others. Also spotted at the event were Spike Lee, Julianne Moore, Elizabeth Berkeley, and others. There was even a marriage proposal right outside the store.
CNBC has an interview with Apple CEO Steve Jobs available on YouTube. Steve Jobs on NBC Nightly News also via YouTube. To see the new Apple cube unveiled. Nice gallery here of the cube and staircase.
Apple Computer may have won “round one” over Apple Corps. But will this end the lawsuits?
Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs on Monday invited the Beatles to join the iTunes Music Store. “We have always loved the Beatles, and hopefully we can now work together to get them on the iTunes Music Store,†said Steve Jobs.
Unfortunately for Apple Computer, the lawsuit may continue as it has been recently discovered that John Lennon may have actually invented the iPod first (video below)! Now that Al Gore (Internet inventor) is on the Apple board of directors I wonder if he can persuade Apple Corps to come join Apple Computer as he did.
MacTV Videocast website has posted Apple’s NAB 2006 demo reel. Nicely edited, worth seeing for all editors. They also have the NAB 2005 demo reel and NAB 2004 demo reel. Thanks to Asif for letting me know where to find the 2005 demo reel.

Some Mac users are now dual booting OS X and Windows XP using Apple’s recently released Boot Camp (free). Some are even using “virtualization” with Parallels Workstation (free as a beta, $10 discount on pre-orders, making the cost $39.99) which allows you to run Windows on top of OS X at nearly full speed with no rebooting required. There has never been a better time for Windows users to try a Mac.
I was a full-time Windows user for many years and I still use Windows daily (because I have to). As it is true I prefer Mac OS X and also use Linux, this post will discuss some of the applications that I consider “must-haves” for Windows XP.
First and foremost, this is Windows, and the first thing I suggest is making sure to install all of the Windows updates from Microsoft. This will take awhile, but is an absolute must. Do not load anything before you do this. Even if you are installing Windows XP on Apple hardware you are not safe on the Internet until you do this. Launch Windows Update and install all the updates that Microsoft has available. Keep running Windows Update over and over until there are no more updates to do. Like I said it may take awhile.
