OS X Tip #98
This can be really handy when you don’t want to use the mouse or if you want a menu item that do not know or doesn’t have a keyboard shortcut.
Here’s how:
To navigate the menu bar with your keyboard
Control + F2. Now use the left/right arrow keys to move from one menu to another, and the up/down arrow keys to navigate the various menus. To cancel, just press the Escape key.
To navigate the Dock with your keyboard
Control + F3. Now use the left/right arrow keys to move from one menu to another, and the up/down arrow keys to bring up the an item in the Dock. To cancel, press the Escape key.
Note: If you are on a PowerBook/iBook/MacBook or MacBook Pro you will have to press the “fn” key also (function key) as the F1 – F10 keys serve dual purpose on these portables.
Application switcher
Also, if you want to switch between active applications with just the keyboard, press the Command (Apple key) + Tab. This will bring up the application switcher. Just click the Tab key while holding down the Command key to navigate to the application you want and release!
