OS X Tip #99
With all the nice browsers available for OS X, maybe you have found one that you just like better than Safari. Do not get me wrong Safari is a great web browser. But maybe you are a GMail user or a blogger and Firefox is more useful to you. Or you just like Camino or Opera and want to make that your default web browser. What I mean by that is you want say Firefox to launch when you click on Gmail notifier, or if you want Camino to launch automatically when you click on a URL in an email. So if you want this to happen you will need to change the system-wide default web browser.

Here’s how:
Launch Apple’s Safari browser.

Go to Safari -> Preferences, under the “General” tab.

Pick the installed browser you want to use from the “Default Web Browser” dropdown menu.

Pick default browser

Note: If the browser you want is not listed, Click “Select…” at the bottom of the dropdown menu. Browse to the application in your Applications folder to pick the browser you want.

Close Safari Preferences, and quit Safari. You have now selected a new “default” browser for your Mac.
