OS X Tip #106
Moving files and folders around is a common task in all computing. Mastering just a few keyboard and mouse combinations can make your Mac computing much more productive.

Master these:
Shift + click – allows you to select contiguous items in a list. Hold down the Shift key and click the mouse on the first item in a list inside a folder. Then while still holding down the Shift key and click on the last item in the list and you have just selected them and all the items in between also.

Shift + click

Command (Apple key) + click – allows you to select non contiguous items in a list. Hold down the Command key and click the mouse on each item in a list inside a folder. You can select just the items you want in a list.

Command + click

Control + click – on a file or folder and the contextual menu will pop up that will allow several choices depending on the item.

Control + click

Option + drag – hold down the Option key and drag a file or folder to a new location and the Finder will copy the file or folder. You will then have a copy in both the original and the new location.

Command (Apple key) + drag – by default OS X will copy a file or folder when you drag it from one volume to another. Like if you drag a file from an external hard drive to your Macs hard drive. If you hold down the Command key when you drag a file or folder from one volume to another it will just move it instead of copying it.

Command (Apple key) + Option + drag – holding down the Command key + Option key while you drag a file or folder from one location to another you will create an Alias (called Shortcut in Windows) in the new location.
