WordPress.org has just released WordPress 2.06 their very popular blogging software. ReelSmart is built on WordPress. This new release will make Mac users happy as it now supports Quicktags for Safari users.

Quicktags are these easy editing buttons below the word Post:

Write Post - Quicktags

I have posted in the past on how to get quicktags working for WordPress on Safari in the past. Well it is nice to see no more tweaking the code to get quicktags working.

The history of this was that originally Safari did not properly support quicktags and would sometimes crash, lock up, or respond poorly. WordPress developers simply added code to “sniff” out the browser and turn off the quicktags when Safari was detected. They did not want WordPress getting blamed for the Safari incompatibility. Safari now supports quicktags and WordPress.com, the hosted solution of WordPress has allowed for Safari quicktags for awhile now.

The WordPress update is an important update for all users.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Important security fixes.
  • HTML quicktags now work in Safari browsers.
  • Comments are filtered to prevent them from messing up your blog layout.
  • Compatibility with PHP/FastCGI setups.
