I posted recently about Google’s new “Street View” enhancement to Google Maps, which will initially shows detailed street-level views of San Francisco, New York, Las Vegas, Denver and Miami, with others to follow. With this new feature, users can virtually walk the streets of a city, even zooming in on bus stops and street signs.

I thought you might be interested how these images are being processed. Google has signed a contract with Immersive Media Corp. to license its 360-degree street-level images of North American cities. Immersive Media is using its own patented 11-lens camera, mounted on a VW “bug” to capture the “street life” for Google Maps.
