Much has been said about the iPhone’s keyboard. I have found it pretty good when I tried it, but it needs a bit of practice. Using the punctuation requires you access the screen that contains these keys. If you want to access these faster and easier, try this.
Here’s how:
If you want to type a period or other punctuation, simply touch and hold the “.?123″ key then slide your finger to the desired punctuation button. When you’ve selected the punctuation, the keyboard automatically changes back to the normal character entry mode.
This allows you to quickly select a punctuation character without having to tap more than once making a HUGE difference in the usability of the keyboard.

i found that if i tapped the punctuation button and then tapped the symbol i wanted, all i had to do was hit the spacebar- then it returns to the standard keyboard. it is faster than holding the .?123 button and sliding to hit your punctuation.
I have found the iPhone keyboard to be quite usable. I like it a lot better than my Windows Mobile Smartphone.
