iTunesOK, just as you were getting used to the new iTunes with the built-in ringtone maker, here comes another update. No specific changes between 7.4 and 7.4.1,are listed, but surprise, surprise the described technique posted on several websites for creating your own ringtones simply by changing file extension of tracks to .m4r, announced earlier, no longer works. Although, the updated iToner 1.0.1, just revised to work with 7.4, continues to work with 7.4.1. A reader suggests that if you change the extension of your ringtone files BACK to ‘.m4a’ from ‘.m4r’ they will sync again and still show up as ringtones. I can not confirm this.

MacFixit reports that iTunes 7.4.1 appears to serve no other purpose other than disabling the trick that allowed files renamed with an .m4r extension to be used as ringtones without separate purchase under iTunes 7.4. So fire up your Software Updater if you want.
