Shares of AAPL surges over $200 (201.17 at the time of me writing this) with investor confidence in Apple holiday sales.

ThinkSecret.com a popular Apple rumor site that was sometimes correct and many times wrong will shut down as part of a settlement with Apple Apple sued the rumor site for leaking early product details three years ago.

December 20, 2007 – PRESS RELEASE: Apple and Think Secret have settled their lawsuit, reaching an agreement that results in a positive solution for both sides. As part of the confidential settlement, no sources were revealed and Think Secret will no longer be published. Nick Ciarelli, Think Secret’s publisher, said “I’m pleased to have reached this amicable settlement, and will now be able to move forward with my college studies and broader journalistic pursuits.”

Apple has released an update (3.0.4) for Safari for Windows. Safari seems to be getting better for the Windows platform. Safari is available for XP and Vista.

ReelSmart has just been moved to a better server that should help the CPU Quota problems we were having with the current traffic load. I also installed WP-Cache plugin to assist with keeping the website up and faster. You should see less down time. Shares of Apple Inc. [AAPL] rose 2.87 percent up $4.35 pre share to close at record breaking $194.30 with a market value of $170.12 billion on volume of 38,070,059 shares and passes Cisco’s [CSCO] $166.54 billion in market value. Apple is now the third most valuable company in market value in tech sector behind Microsoft and Google at least at the moment. Apple has more than three times the market value of Dell with $56.06 billion. Wonder how Michael Dell feels about Apple’s future now?

An update for Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac (build 5582), has been released. This release includes improved Leopard compatibility, improved USB compatibility, and more. Parallels Desktop is $79.99 for Intel-based Macs. A new $99.99 Premium Edition includes Windows software for malware protection, backup, and disk management.

Adobe has released a Premiere Pro 3.1.1 update and a Leopard compatibility update for its Soundbooth CS3 applications. It is highly recommended for all Adobe users. Premiere Pro and Soundbooth CS3 require an Intel Mac with Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later.

Bare Bones Software has released Yojimbo 1.5 which features an information collector and organizer with Smart Collections, tags, a Drop Dock, live search, Spotlight support, encryption for individual items, Sync Services support, and other features. This release is Leopard compatible and adds support for image and icon files, faster searching and filtering, more complete Spotlight results, and other changes.

Yojimbo makes keeping all the small (or even large) bits of information that pour in every day organized and accessible. It’s simple with practically no learning curve. Yojimbo 1.5 has replaced SOHO Notes on my Macs.

Adobe has released Flash Player 9.0.115.0 for Mac OS X for Intel and PowerPC. Includeed support for H.264 video and HE-AAC audio codecs, multi-core support for vector rendering, full-screen mode with hardware scaling, and other improvements.

If you are like me and do presentations or training on a Mac you might like to try out these inexpensive applications to make your sessions rock! These are nice to add to your arsenal of Keynote or PowerPoint.

Mouseposé 2, $14.95 is OS X only tool for anyone doing presentations or demos. If turned on, it dims the screen and puts a spotlight on the area around the mouse pointer, easily guiding the audiences attention to an area of interest.

Keystroke visualisation lets your audience see the keys you press. This way they will understand your demonstration much better. Very useful for product demos and trainings.

Google has launched a new homepage to enable iPhone users to navigate Google Search, Gmail, Calendar, Reader and other services. When iPhone users visit the Google site using the Safari browser on their iPhone, they are redirected to the new website. Looks very nice.

Google has integrated AOL’s AIM instant-messaging service into the Gmail Web-based e-mail client. Gmail users will be able to connect to AIM through a drop-down menu on the Gmail Web page.

Now, when people are using Gmail, they can see if the people they’re sending e-mail to are available for live chat on AIM. Gmail users just need to click on the options link on the Chat section and sign in to AOL AIM.

It never ceases to amaze me how many educational institutions “push” commercial software when there is perfectly good open source and free alternatives. Some schools are spending way too much money on applications form Microsoft and others when their are fantastic alternatives. This is not a Microsoft bash, but it is odd to me that even some technically knowledgeable teachers and professors are not really teaching our kids computing, they are only showing them how to use Microsoft or another big companies software.
