iPhone Tip #30
You can save any photo or image as the photo associated with a contact in Contacts. This includes the pictures you take with your iPhone’s camera, photos you see on the web or photos you are emailed. This way you can literally SEE who’s calling.
Here’s how:
Any picture you receive in an email or see while using Safari on your iPhone must be saved to your iPhone’s Camera Roll. See iPhone Tip #22: Save Images in Safari and Mail for more info.
Once saved, you can access the picture in Photos -> Camera Roll. Find the picture you want to use with a contact and click on the icon at the bottom left.
If the icon does not show up, touch the picture once and it will.
Now select “Assign To Contact.”

Pick the contact you want to use with this picture.
Now you can move and scale the picture to your liking using two fingers by pitching to zoom and scale and one finger to move the image.

Then just touch the Set Photo button. Done!
Now you will see this photo in assigned to the contact you choose. Best of all it will sync back to your Mac when you sync or automatically if you are using MobileMe.
