DataViz has sent out an email about Documents-To-Go for the iPhone that allows editing Office files on mobile devices after showing a sneak preview during the Mobile World Congress 2009. In essence, they wanted to let interested parties know that Documents To Go is still on track to be released in the second quarter of 2009.
I have been recently asked what apps I like for Twitter. So here you go.
Agile in quick fashion has updated 1Password, the Mac password manager, to support Safari 4 Beta. Current users can just run “check for updates” within the application or you can download 1Passord update from here.
Interesting take on Steve “the monkey-boy” Ballmer and where he put his mojo over at John Paczkowski article on Digital Daily.
Ballmer speaking at Microsoft’s annual Strategic Update in New York on Tuesday, said that while consumers might be fascinated with the iPhone and BlackBerry, carriers and OEMs much prefer Windows Mobile. “The truth of the matter is all the consumer market mojo is with Apple and to a lesser extent BlackBerry,” Ballmer said. “And yet, the real market momentum with operators and the real market momentum with device manufacturers seems to primarily be with Windows Mobile and Android. … “I think the guys who are in the best position to benefit are the guys who actually have phones at low price points,” Ballmer added. “I think that’s a distinct advantage that we have,”
Gee I did not know that the Blackberry was really a consumer device? I always see corporate types with them. Gee even my company gave me one! Too bad carriers and OEMs are not the ultimate buyers, actual people are!
Apple released an update for the Apple TV, version 2.3.1 last night, which appears to be a maintenance release. This update does break most all the third party add-ons for the Apple TV such as Boxee. I did not notice any additional features so far. Just go to Settings -> General -> Software Update to download on your Apple TV.

Apple today announced Safari 4 public beta for Mac and Windows. With its new Nitro engine, Safari 4 runs JavaScript 4.2 times faster than Safari 3. Amazon shows the Kindle 2 as in-stock at $359. If you want one, move fast is my recommendation.
The Kindle 2, Amazon’s second generation reading device offers wireless delivery of content in a new slimmer design weighing just 10.2 ounces with a 25 precent longer battery life, faster page turns, 2GB storage holding over 1,500 book this is over seven times more than the original Kindle.
Kindle 2 has a new and improved 6-inch, 600 x 800 electronic paper display providing 16 shades of gray versus 4 shades available in the original Kindle, resulting in crisp text, and sharper images and photos. Kindle reads like printed words on paper because the screen works using real ink and doesn’t use a backlight, eliminating the eyestrain and glare associated with other electronic displays. With the latest electronic paper display, pages turn an average of 20 percent faster than the original Kindle for an even smoother reading experience.
Did someone tell you that a GPS app with turn-by-turn navigation was no yet available for the iPhone? Wrong. XRoad Co. G-Map is available in the App Store right now (no jail-breaking required) and offers turn-by-turn directions without the need for a network connection as the maps are all loaded onto your iPhone when you download the app. No monthly fees either like some apps like TeleNav and Verizon Wireless ($10 per month).
G-Map comes with maps for U.S. East and U.S. West and sell for $19.99 $24.99 (version 1.3) each. The G-Map U.S. East weighs in at 829 MB and the G-Map U.S. West is 929 MB so they do take some significant space on your iPhone, but that is to be expected with an app of this type.

Google has announced List View for spreadsheets. You can now quickly view, edit, sort, and filter your spreadsheets on a variety of mobile devices including Android-powered devices like the T-Mobile G1, the iPhone and iPod touch, and the Nokia S60.

Apple VP Phil Schiller demonstrated this back at WWDC 2008 and it finally has arrived for MobileMe users. MobileMe now has a simple method for using iDisk and email for sharing files that are too big to send via email attachments.

Bye to Total Music as another so-called iTunes killer is calling it quits. Universal and partner Sony BMG have pulled the plug on the music service. Last week the music at Ruckus died too. Seems Apple’s iTunes still dominates as does the iPod. Next, is what Apple must be thinking.
Apple has released a free updated MobileMe Control Panel 1.3 for Windows. This update is said to offer faster MobileMe contact and calendar syncing for Microsoft Outlook users, auto-updating when changes are made on a a device or on the Web, and a new tray icon shows sync progress. Available for download.
xGPS has used Google Maps and it’s own real-time navigation readout and a voice proving it is possible. Apple, Google how about making this available to ALL iPhone users? The xGPS is only available via jailbreak. Works with iPod touch also.
I have been using Stanza, free and Classics, $2.99 to read books on my iPhone for a few months now and find the experience pretty satisfying when I am stuck waiting somewhere. I would highly recommend Amazon’s Kindle 2 to avid readers, casual readers might be quite satisfied with the ability to just read on their smartphones.
Shortcovers is owned and operated by Indigo Books & Music, the largest book retailer in Canada. They are bringing a new challenger to the Kindle to the iPhone. I was expecting Amazon to announce their own smartphone version of the Kindle software to smartphones, but they seem to be pushing just the hardware right now. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
