:: Review: BlueAnt M1 Stereo Bluetooth Speakers

M1_front_view

I just purchased two BlueAnt M1 speaker systems – one for my home and the other for my office. I was looking to find a nice wireless speaker to use with my iPhone 3GS and Blackberry Curve.

The BlueAnt M1 Portable Stereo Speakers, $169.99 [Amazon] filled this perfectly as it features rechargeable batteries that will run the device for around 10 hours (medium volume level), has an output of 28 watts RMS and is compatible with any Bluetooth A2DP device including computers, PDAs and mobile phones. A nice added feature is its stereo 3.5mm jack on the rear so you can use the speakers with your non-Bluetooth devices connected directly.

:: MLB.com At Bat 2009 Streams First Live Game to iPhone

mlbatbat2009_2MLB.com At Bat 2009, $9.99 [iTunes link] is streaming the first live baseball game, Cubs vs. White Sox starting at 2:20 PM EST today.

I am watching it right now and have tried it on WiFi as well as 3G. I was impressed by this iPhone app in the past and I am now even more impressed. They plan on streaming two games a day and users are subject to blackout regulations. The video looks pretty good and the app even offers DVR functions like pausing live stream and a 30 second rollback. If you are a baseball fan absolutely take a look at this app. MLB.com At Bat 2009 has become one of my favorite iPhone apps.

MLB.com At Bat 2009 also includes MLB.com Gameday Audio, MLB.com Gameday, In-game Video Highlights and Condensed Games.

:: Subscribed MobileMe Calendars Finally on iPhone

calendar_iphone30One of the most glaring features missing from MobileMe and the iPhone was an easy way to view subscribed MobileMe calendars on your iPhone. For years I have shared these calendars with friends and family on my Macs. Now finally as part of the iPhone 3.0 update it can be easy done on my iPhone.

To view calendars that are published to MobileMe on your iPhone your friends and family just need to send an email inviting you from iCal.

To publish an iCal calendar, simply click the calendar and select Publish from the Calendar menu on your Mac. Now send an email inviting others MobileMe users to subscribe.

Your friends and family can now subscribe to your published calendars and view them on their iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone OS 3.0. They simply view the invitation email on their device and tap the link to set up the subscription to the calendar. For more details on how to publish calendars to MobileMe and subscribe to them, please read this support article.

Note: You MUST have iPhone 3.0 running for this to work.

:: State of iPhone Tethering, NetShare STILL Works

netshare.pngSome road warriors may be a bit disappointed that AT&T has still not announced plans for tethering their iPhone to their computer to share its network connection. This is a real help to some users as they can use their iPhone’s 3G cellular connection with their laptop when there is no WiFi to be had.

As I am sure AT&T eventually bring a tethering plan to the iPhone, especially since iPhone 3.0 includes features for tethering via Bluetooth and USB in the OS. Don’t expect it to be free or even cheap. Tethering plans tend to run $30 or more a month with most carriers.

In the meantime, Cleve Nettles over at 9to5mac has a quick tutorial to get tethering working with your Mac in a few easy steps.

AT&T was probably the main reason that Nullriver’s NetShare, an app that allows you to use proxies to share your iPhone’s cellular connection with your Mac, was quickly pulled from the App Store. I was one of the lucky ones who purchased this app as it was only available for a few hours before being yanked forever from the US iTunes App Store.
