Probably the beginning of a worldwide rollout. Four regional versions of the long-awaited TomTom iPhone turn-by-turn GPS app are now available in the New Zealand and Australia App Store that include the U.S. & Canada version.
Pricing in New Zealand Dollars are as follows:
- U.S. & Canada: NZD 124.99 (US $84.41)
- Western Europe: NZD 179.99 (US $121.55)
- Australia: NZD 104.99 (US $79.90)
- New Zealand: NZD 119.99 (US $81.03)
Prices are for the software only and do not include the optional car kit promised by TomTom.
From the description in the New Zealand App Store it appears that TomTom will not suffer from two important features lacking in some of the other apps rushed to the App Store – you can use addresses already in your iPhone Contacts and dial the phone numbers easily from the TomTom POI listings. I look forward to getting this and reviewing it along with all the others I already tested.
UPDATE: The TomTom apps are now available in the United Kingdom App Store (with addition of the UK and Ireland version), Italy (with Italy version), France (with France version), Spain, Germany, Finland, Norway, you get the idea. The roll out is expected to continue and the US App Store may have TomTom available sometime after midnight.
Pricing in the United Kingdom store:
- U.S. & Canada: £59.99
- Western Europe: £79.99
- Australia: £44.99
- New Zealand: £54.99
- UK and Ireland: £59.99
Exchange rate: 1 British pound = 1.6507 U.S. dollars
