:: Netflix on PS3 Disc-free, 1080i Streaming and 5.1 Surround

On October 18th, Netflix for the Sony PS3 will now be native and no longer require a disc, hooray! Plus they will begin rolling out some content with 1080i resolution and/or 5.1-channel surround audio. I guess the Microsoft exclusive deal is over. The new UI of the app looks pretty nice. :: iPad For Sale At Verizon Wireless Stores October 28

Apple and Verizon has finally made a deal. Not the one some would like to see however, but it is a start. On October 28, Verizon Wireless will be offering WiFi-only iPads in its brick-and-mortar stores bundled with Verizon’s own MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot device with pricing at $630 (16GB), $730 (32GB) and $830 (64GB) for the iPad and MiFi device. Verizon Wireless is offering a monthly access plan to iPad customers of up to 1GB of data for just $20 a month. Customers will also be able to buy a standalone iPad without the MiFi.

:: Apple “Back to Mac” Special Event Next Week

Apple just announced a media event scheduled for October 20th — a week from today. Seems they are saying the conversation will be the Mac. Judging from the invitation art, perhaps the next version of OS X will be 10.7 “Lion.” The event’s to be held at Apple’s town hall and we’ll be covering it live at 10 AM PT next Wednesday.

I just received the NEW Apple TV second generation hardware running iOS and spent a few hours putting through its paces. First let me reveal I have had a long love-hate relationship with the Apple TV. I was an early adopter of the first generation and actually own two of them. I have tried most all the hacks and spent many hours trying to enjoy their features. Right I said “trying” as I have been grossly disappointed in the Apple TV as a product. I have told anyone interested that I thought it was by far Apple’s worst product and an embarrassment to a company that prides itself in creating great products.
